An Adoption Full of Expectations

When it comes to adopting a dog, many people focus on factors like age and breed. While all dogs deserve love, it’s natural for future owners to have preferences that suit their lifestyle.
For Nancy Muth, a woman from Florida, choosing a Black Labrador seemed like the perfect fit for her family.
When she adopted a sweet pup named Rocco, she believed she was welcoming a Lab into her home. But as time passed, Rocco’s features began to change—leading to a startling discovery about his true breed.

A Surprising Revelation

Rocco had been part of a family that could no longer care for him, and his siblings had bullied him. Wanting to give him a fresh start, Nancy brought him home, never questioning his breed.
However, as the weeks went by, she noticed something unusual. His wrinkles started to deepen, and his structure looked different from what she expected in a Labrador.
Curious, she took him to a Florida veterinarian for a check-up—and that’s when she received an unexpected revelation.
The vet informed Nancy that Rocco was likely more Cane Corso than Lab!
This took her completely by surprise. At first glance, he had the typical sleek black coat of a Labrador, but as he grew, his Cane Corso traits became undeniable.

An Unexpected (But Perfect) Companion

Nancy had never raised a Cane Corso before. Her family had always owned Corgis—dogs that were much smaller and completely different in temperament.
Yet, despite the unexpected breed mix, they had already fallen in love with Rocco. His playful personality and loving nature made it clear that he belonged with them, regardless of his genetics.

Going Viral With a Twist

Wanting to share her funny discovery, Nancy posted a video about Rocco online, and the internet had a lot to say!
One commenter wrote:
👉“He’s beautiful. He doesn’t understand he’s not what you expected. That would just make me hug him more.”
Another added:
👉“You’ve won the lottery! But be prepared to have a constant shadow following you for the next decade.”
Cane Corsos are known for their loyalty and protective instincts, so it’s safe to say Rocco will always keep a close eye on his new family.
One user even shared a similar experience:
👉“My mom adopted a Black Lab from a shelter… three weeks later, it was clear he was actually a Pit Bull!”
Clearly, Nancy isn’t the only one who’s been surprised by a rescue pup’s unexpected lineage!

A Happy Ending No Matter the Breed

At the end of the day, it didn’t matter whether Rocco was a Black Lab or a Cane Corso. What mattered was the love and connection he shared with his family.
As Nancy quickly realized, no matter what breed a dog is, they have an endless capacity to love—especially when they receive that same love in return.
