A Shocking Break-In at the Shelter

In a bizarre and unsettling incident, authorities in San Bernardino, California, arrested a woman who allegedly broke into the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter and released multiple dogs.

The break-in, which was captured on surveillance footage, took place around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

The footage shows a woman cutting the locks on the shelter’s front gate, and then proceeding to break into at least ten kennels, allowing twenty dogs to escape.

Moments later, she was seen walking away from the shelter, with several dogs following her into the night.

An Urgent Rescue Mission

The San Bernardino shelter, which houses over 300 dogs, immediately launched a full-scale effort to locate the missing animals.

“It was an all hands on deck situation,” said Christian Watson, a spokesperson for the shelter.

As staff members searched the area alongside local police, they were able to recover many of the dogs.

However, in a shocking twist, the very person responsible for setting the dogs free later returned to the shelter.

The Suspect Leads Investigators to the Missing Dogs

After returning to the shelter, the suspect began asking questions about the missing dogs.

According to shelter staff, she made suspicious statements, including:

“I know where the dogs are.”

When pressed further, she reportedly admitted to knowing the location of several dogs and eventually led staff and police to a nearby dumpster—where they discovered four more dogs inside.

“We were thankful that they were able to take us to those dogs,” Watson said. “Having them in a dumpster—so many things could have gone wrong.

One Dog Still Missing

Authorities have since recovered 19 of the 20 missing dogs, but one remains unaccounted for—a small Chihuahua named Louise.

The shelter is pleading for the public’s help in finding Louise before it’s too late.

“People get concerned about animals in shelters, and they think letting them loose is the best thing to do,” Watson explained. “But that comes with an inherent risk.

Increased Security Measures

In response to the shocking break-in, the San Bernardino Animal Shelter has announced increased security measures to prevent future incidents.

Additionally, officials confirmed that some of the dogs involved in the incident are already in the adoption process.

While police have not yet released the name of the woman arrested, she remains in custody as authorities investigate her motives behind the break-in.
