The School of Hard Knocks TikTok (@theschoolofhardknocks(which shares career and financial advice) posted an interview of a woman working in sales for TikTok. She was asked what advice she would give her younger self.
“Delete your graduation year from your résumé,” she said. She explained that recruiters and traditional employers will often base their salary on your experience in the real world.
But if recent grads leave their graduation off their résumé, recruiters will have to judge them on their skills and previous experience. They could be considered for positions other than those reserved for entry-level candidates.
Other career-focused creators quickly added to the conversation by stitching together the original video and their own advice.
Jerry Lee (@jerryjhleeWongsulting (a career counseling firm) agreed with this and suggested that candidates delete their graduation date, as well as move their education section down to the bottom. résuméBelow is their work experience.
Lee explained that adding your year of graduation can only harm you. It’s not an issue unless you’re still a student.
This advice isn’t just for recent graduates, though — removing your graduation year can be a good idea for older job seekers too.
