‘Venom: The Last Dance’ end credits explained: Is Venom dead or alive?

‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is the final outing of Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock, a journalist sharing his bond with a sentient alien. While no human enemy has ever stood a chance against them, the third Venom film unfolds a series of bigger threats in their life. This time they face a massive symbiote alien from Venom’s home planet, all while being hunted as fugitives by government agents.

The trilogy closure also introduces viewers to Knull, the big baddie, known to be the God of Symbiotes, who is trapped in Klyntar, in need of a Codex retained in Eddie’s body, to escape from the cage. There’s fight sequences aplenty in the superhero film, from battle action on a plane to the mortal combat of an entire symbiote army in the climax. The movie ends with two end credit scenes that seals Knull’s fate and even drops a vague clue about Venom’s future.

Knull’s address to the viewers

In the final battle, Venom separates himself from Eddie and sacrifices his life in an explosion while grappling with Knull’s Xenophage. “It is goodbye for now,” the symbiote tells Eddie in an emotional farewell and the alien appearances are later nipped in the bud by the government. When the dust settles, we learn in the post-credit scene that Knull is finally awake. “Planets will be mine. The King in black is awake. I will kill your world. Everyone will burn and you will watch,” says an enraged God of Symbiotes before the credit ends.

Previously, in an interview with IGN, Venom 3 director Kelly Marcel teased, “We were always aware of Knull, but knew that we needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character, and his relationship with Eddie, before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull.” This could only mean that we might see the big villain reappear with more chaos in the future.

Is Venom dead or alive?

After parting with Venom, Eddie visits the Statue of Liberty, which they had once planned to see together. Eddie promises to never forget Venom, however, it is likely that the alien symbiote could still be alive. The second end credit shows the Mexican bartender (Played by Cristo Fernandez), who Eddie initially interacts in the film, walking out in the ruins of the battle explosion.

The camera pans on a broken vial, which was used to contain a symbiote, a cockroach approaches the vial and the credit ends on a cliffhanger. It seemingly hints at a leftover symbiote’s existence but only time can reveal who it belongs to.
