Cruise is known for his high-risk stunts. He did it again when he flew at speed while filming a scene.

Cruise’s speed fly coordinator described the sport in a Twitter video as a “very small canopy racing on a mountain, just feet off of the ground”.

Christopher McQuarrie, the film’s director said: “Tom is a great stuntman and there are no limitations. You become more adventurous each time you shoot a Mission Impossible stunt.

“It’s a very beautiful and delicate sport, but it’s also one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

“While it may look similar, speed flying is not sky diving. Sky diving is fairly predictable, speed flying is incredibly unpredictable.”

Cruise stated that after training for ‘a few years’ for the sequence, the stunt will end with the landing of a certain mark at high speed of about 80km/h.

While Cruise pulled off the stunt in spectacular fashion, McQuarrie did acknowledge: “Flying so close to the rocks looks absolutely beautiful, but behind the scenes we were all in absolute terror.”

The UK premiere of Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will take place on 14 July.
