A Heartbreaking Goodbye
For Glenn Maloney and his family, it was supposed to be the end.
Their beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Mugsy, had been hit by a car outside their home.
Maloney rushed to his dog’s side, holding him in his arms, but Mugsy wasn’t breathing.
Heartbroken, he checked for signs of life—there were none.
Not wanting his children, Megan and Kevin, to see their beloved pet in such a tragic state, he made the painful decision to bury Mugsy in the yard.
That night, the family said their final goodbyes, placing a small cross at his grave and praying for their lost friend.
Little did they know, Mugsy’s story wasn’t over yet.

The Unbelievable Surprise at the Door
At 5:30 a.m., just 14 hours after they laid Mugsy to rest, the family was awakened by a scratching noise.
Groggy and confused, Maloney got up to investigate.
When he opened the door, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
Mugsy was standing there, wagging his tail, covered in dirt—ALIVE.
His girlfriend, Viola, was just as shocked.
“No way,” she thought. “That can’t be Mugsy.”
Could they have buried the wrong dog?
Maloney was certain—he had checked Mugsy’s tags before burying him.
But when he went back to the grave, the truth was even stranger…
Did Mugsy Dig Himself Out of His Own Grave?
The grave where Maloney had buried Mugsy was empty—dug up from the inside.
The vets had a theory:
Mugsy had likely entered a deep state of shock, his breathing and heartbeat so slow that he appeared lifeless.
For six hours, he lay buried underground…until he finally woke up and dug his way out.
Jack Russell Terriers are natural diggers, and in Mugsy’s confused state, he must have thought he was simply burrowing like he always did.
Somehow, against all odds, he escaped his own grave and made his way home.
A Miracle That No One Can Explain
No one can fully explain what happened to Mugsy that night.
All they know is that he was alive, happy, and ready to be back with the family who loved him.
To this day, Mugsy’s incredible story remains one of the most bizarre and heartwarming pet miracles ever recorded.
