On a chilly January day, officers in St. Louis, Missouri, spotted a black and white dog wandering alone through a quiet neighborhood. The pup looked lost and uncertain, so they stopped to help, securing him safely before reaching out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) for backup.
Donna Lochmann from SRSL was quick to respond. She met the officers and took over, assuring them that the dog was now in good hands. As soon as she had him in her care, she brought him to the car. That’s when something beautiful happened. The dog, they later named Bowie, curled into Donna’s shoulder and let out a long, relieved sigh.
“This sweet baby boy was beside himself, running the streets all alone,” SRSL wrote on Facebook. “He wanted to be held and told everything would be OK.”
Bowie clung to Donna throughout the drive, as though he had been waiting his whole life for someone to tell him he was safe. The bond between them was instant. Though they had just met, she treated him like he had always belonged there.
“We love him already,” SRSL shared.
It didn’t take long for Bowie’s story to take another happy turn. A foster family quickly stepped forward, ready to help him heal and grow. He was all smiles as he headed off to their home, flanked by two new best friends who made the car ride feel like a celebration.
“See how happy Bowie is to go to foster?” SRSL posted. “That’s how we feel!” (see photo)
Bowie’s new foster family welcomed him with open arms, but it was his furry foster brother, Ramone, who became the most smitten of all. The two clicked right away.
“Ramone is absolutely smitten with him,” Bowie’s foster mom, Anne-Marie Theresa, commented on Facebook. “He loves to play with other dogs, and he is a professional snuggle bug!”
Since then, Bowie has settled into his foster home beautifully. He’s playful, affectionate, and eager to learn. Everyone who meets him sees how special he is, and it feels like just a matter of time before the perfect adopter finds him.
“He loves cuddling with people, and he loves learning new things,” SRSL shared.
Even local businesses have taken notice. Imo’s Pizza, a St. Louis favorite, has generously offered to cover Bowie’s adoption fee in hopes of helping him find his forever home.
“This is one great pup, and he’s ready for you,” SRSL said.
Bowie’s heart is open, and his tail is always wagging. All he needs now is someone who sees him the way Donna did that very first day.
