While visiting a local animal shelter in search of a new companion, Drew Harrisberg was initially disappointed to learn that the dog he had hoped to adopt had already found a home. Still hopeful, he continued walking through the shelter, scanning the rows of kennels, when an unusual sound caught his attention—a loud, high-pitched squeal.
Turning toward the source, Drew spotted a Pit Bull mix named Dennis. The dog was visibly thrilled, making excited noises and wagging his tail as if he had been waiting for Drew all along. Though Drew hadn’t planned on meeting Dennis, something about the dog’s energy and enthusiasm tugged at his heart.
Drew felt an instant connection. “I just fell for him immediately,” he would later admit. But there was a catch: Dennis had already been promised to another adopter. Not wanting to give up, Drew offered to foster Dennis for the two weeks leading up to the adoption.
