In the past few seasons, this has traditionally been a clash of the league’s top two teams. This year, however, Liverpool is struggling to make a name for themselves and are one point behind league leaders Arsenal. They have won only twice in their first eight games.
Both league matches between these teams ended in a 2-2 draw last season. Liverpool won the FA Cup semifinal in April 3-2.
Liverpool also claimed a 3-1 victory in the Community Shield earlier this season, in what was Erling Haaland’s debut for City.
City enters this match having drawn 0-0 with FC Copenhagen last week. Liverpool won 7-1 at Rangers.
