‘Squid Game’ star Lee Jung-jae debunks viral theory that Gi-hun is aware of the Front Man’s true identity

The second season of ‘Squid Game‘ released in December last year, receiving mixed reactions from the viewers. Hwang Dong-hyuk’s hit show featured a few surprises including the Front Man entering the game as player 001.

Following the release of the new season, viewers speculated that Jung-jae’s character, Seung Gi-hun, should’ve recognized the Front Man, when he entered the game. Why so? In the first season’s finale, Gi-hun and the Front Man came face-to-face. After Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) ended his life and Gi-hum emerged as the winner, he met the Front Man in a car. However, Gi-hun was blindfolded so he couldn’t see his face, but he definitely heard his voice. Going by this, Gi-hun should’ve recognized the voice of Player 001.

When asked about the viral fan theory, via TheTab, Lee Jung-jae explained that Gi-hun’s mind was elsewhere. He couldn’t register the Front Man’s voice when he first heard it because he was too busy blaming himself for everything that happened. “I don’t think Gi-hun knows the truth yet,” added Jung-jae.

In the third and final season, Gi-hun and the Front Man will come face-to-face. And well, we can’t wait to see what happens next.

Squid Game‘ season 3 will be released in 2025.
