Alone in the Cold With Nowhere to Go
As winter cloaked the streets in snow and ice, a small stray dog did what she could to survive—curling herself into a tight ball on a stranger’s porch. With no coat to keep her warm and no home to return to, she lay trembling against the frozen concrete, clinging to the last bit of warmth her tiny body could hold onto.
It was a heartbreaking sight, and thankfully, someone walking by noticed. They couldn’t bear to leave her there and immediately contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.
The team, led by experienced rescuer Donna Lochmann, responded quickly. Time was of the essence in weather this cold. And when they arrived, what they saw was both heart-wrenching and hopeful.
A Quiet Plea for Help
The dog lay perfectly still, her ears perked up the moment Donna stepped closer. Despite the harsh conditions, she didn’t run—she simply looked up as if asking, “Are you here for me?”
She didn’t bark, whimper, or resist. She just watched with eyes full of cautious hope.
Donna could see right away that this dog had been outside for too long. But more than that, she saw a soul that had not yet given up—who was still holding on for a chance at love.
Without hesitation, the team scooped her up, wrapped her in blankets, and brought her to safety.

Once at the shelter, it became clear just how sweet and gentle this dog really was. She adored anything soft and cozy—blankets, beds, and warm human hands. Her loving nature quickly won everyone over.
She was given a name that suited her perfectly: Comfy Cozy.
A foster home was found almost immediately, and though she was a bit unsure at first, Comfy Cozy began to settle in.
She was finally warm. She was finally safe.
Healing Through Kindness
In the days that followed, Comfy Cozy blossomed. She began to understand that this wasn’t temporary. She didn’t have to be afraid anymore.
She leaned into affection, enjoying the gentle pets, belly rubs, and soft places to nap. It was clear she had been without love for far too long—but now that she had it, she was soaking up every second.
She wasn’t just surviving anymore—she was healing.
A Brighter Future Awaits
Today, Comfy Cozy is on the path to a new life. With the help of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, she is now ready to be adopted and become the heart of someone’s home.
She doesn’t ask for much—just a warm bed, a gentle touch, and a family to love her back.
