Rescuers Find an Abusive Dog Found in the Trash. He Could Not Move His Head

Charlie the Pit Bull most certainly would have perished in the garbage dump if it weren’t for the kindness of a Good Samaritan who discovered him.

Nikki Rubino spotted Charlie lying in the garbage next to a dumpster. He was covered in dirt and had been bitten.

Nikki’s name appeared in a post on Facebook about a puppy that had been abandoned in the trash next to a leisure area. Nikki, who was a vet technician for many years could tell by his face that he was on the verge of death.

Charlie was hesitant to let go of the cord that was holding him to a pole when she first approached him. It was remarkable that he could lift his head after all he had experienced.

Nikki and a friend were able to get him into the vehicle, and they drove him as quickly as they could to the Philadelphia Animal Hospital, where his health has been described as “touch-and-go” ever since. There are many people out there who want to help the Pitbull, now two years old, get better.

The Philadelphia Animal Hospital posted a message on their Facebook page that said, “The following picture is hard to look at but extremely essential.”

The animal hospital stated, “We understand that this is not an isolated incidence, and it is a sad tragedy when innocent creatures are handled in such a manner,” saying that they are aware that this is not a unique incident. “Charlie is a really well-natured dog who is in good health at the moment.” The veterinarians are “doing all they can” to guarantee that he will recover.

The Humane Law Enforcement Unit of the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is currently conducting an investigation to find out who hurt Charlie.

According to the PSPCA Charlie actually has a microchip. This was said to have been inserted by the organization as part of their front clinic and vaccination clinic services. Charlie’s injuries would suggest that he was used in dog fights as a baitdog.

There has been a tremendous outpouring of support for Charlie. Philadelphia Animal Hospital requested that any donations to the City of Elderly Love: Save a Senior Pet charity instead.

On their Facebook page, City of Elderly Love commented, “While not our normal rescue, Charlie’s great finders definitely delivered him to the perfect location.” (While not our typical rescue.) “Because we are the Philadelphia Animal Hospital’s only rescue partner, we will be in charge of his post-recovery care.

The Philadelphia Animal Hospital will treat Charlie at no cost. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the incredible Humane Law Enforcement team in Philadelphia will be able to bring Charlie’s tormentors to justice.

It has been just a few days since Charlie was rescued from his injuries on October 26, 2017. There are encouraging signs that he is improving. Although doctors remain concerned about Charlie developing sepsis from his wounds, there is some hope that he is recovering. On October 29, three days after he was rescued, he is “happy galloping about” the hospital where he is being treated.

According to rescue organizations, Charlie is resilient and has come through the hardest part of the ordeal. “There is no fixed schedule on his rehabilitation, and we’ll have to tackle it day by day,” they stated. Tomorrow is the scheduled date for the surgery to remove additional dead tissue. While he will still need several surgeries, he is now more comfortable than ever.

His saviors will ensure that he has plenty of sleep, lots of hugs and plenty of love while he recovers.

“Tomorrow he will undergo surgery to remove most of the dead tissue around his face and muzzle,” the veterinary hospital said further. This will be his first of several operations, but it’s a positive step on the right track. He is eating well and is more comfortable than ever!

It is a blessing that there are caring individuals such as Nikki, as well as rescuers and physicians, who are trying to preserve Charlie’s life and ensure that his future is bright.
