Guy arrived at West Coast Cane Corso Rescue in California, where the team gladly took him in, despite being a breed-specific rescue. His warm personality and eagerness to connect with people made him stand out right away, and soon a family expressed interest in adopting him.
But the match turned out to be a poor fit. Only a few weeks after the adoption, Guy was brought back. The reason? His adopters admitted they were frightened of him and just didn’t like him. It was a crushing blow for the affectionate Husky who had done nothing wrong.
What made it harder was that Guy had two adoption applications, and the rescue had chosen the wrong one.
“I had two applicants for Guy and I initially chose the wrong family! I adopted him last week, and he just didn’t fit in. I called the other applicant, apologized and he was devastated,” the rescue shared on Instagram.
A Second Chance With the Right Person
After making that difficult phone call, the rescue explained everything to the other interested adopter, a man named Abraham. Despite the earlier disappointment, Abraham didn’t hesitate. He still wanted Guy and made immediate plans to come meet him.
From the moment they were introduced, the connection between Abraham and Guy was instant. It was clear this was the match Guy had been waiting for all along. The pair left the shelter together, ready to begin a fresh chapter side by side.
Guy’s Long Road to Safety
Before arriving at the Cane Corso rescue, Guy had already been through more than any dog should. He was originally surrendered to a high-kill shelter by his previous owners. From there, he was transferred to a questionable facility deep in the Northern California woods, where over 30 Huskies were housed in appalling conditions. Guy endured months of neglect and cruelty before he was finally rescued in October 2024.
Even with such a troubling history, Guy never let it define him. He remained gentle, obedient, and full of love. His rescuers described him as a dream dog.
“He has exceptional manners, he enjoys nice food, he is house trained, crate trained, has a recall, doesn’t run away, and has solid obedience training behind him,” they said.
A Life Full of Love and Adventure
Now safe and secure with Abraham, Guy is living the life every dog deserves. His new dad keeps in touch with the rescue, often sharing updates on their happy life together. The two spend their days exploring, bonding, and simply enjoying the comfort of each other’s company.
Once discarded and overlooked, Guy is now cherished and thriving. His story is a powerful reminder that sometimes, the wrong turn leads us exactly where we’re meant to be.
