Zoomie is a Rhodesian-mix stray puppy that was left behind by her family in the woods.
At just 4 months old, she was left to manage her own affairs. She sought refuge under an olive tree row along the roadside and found a nearby stream to keep her hydrated.
She waited for help in the hope of someone coming to her aid.
A kind stranger saw the puppy curled up on the roadside and started bringing her burritos every time he passed. Adams County Pet Rescue (ACPR), was immediately contacted to report that the young dog needed assistance.
Kyya Grant, director of ACPR and one of her employees answered to the phone. She understood immediately that rescue would be a lengthy process.
Grant told The Dodo, “She was so afraid and barked so much.” “[Dogs] are exceedingly difficult to catch in this situation.”
Grant made the choice to gradually win the puppy’s trust rather than trying to force the terrified animal into the crate. She set the container aside and started talking to the dog.
Because Grant was too scared to approach Grant, the committed rescuer tried a different approach.
Grant recalled, “I went out for a little while, came back that night, put some food out, and talked to her more.”
Even though the dog was still hesitant, Grant could see that she was familiar since she barely barked. After Grant had dumped a heap of kibble on to the ground, Grant let the puppy out of hiding.
Before reaching up and laying her head in her rescuer’s hand, the dog consumed a few bits of food.

Grant returned to the spot where the puppy was found the next morning. Grant was stunned to discover that the puppy knew not only who saved her but was thrilled to see her.
Grant observed that she was thrilled.
To show her happiness at seeing someone return for her, she ran laps on the road.
Grant said, “She got all bouncy and zoomie.” That is the reason we decided to call her Zoomie.
Zoomie’s response can be seen here:
Grant was concerned Zoomie might not be able to get into the box on her behalf when it was her turn. She decided to take the dog home herself, by going down and picking it up.
Grant remarked, “She didn’t react at all. After she had agreed to let me pick up the dog, I put her in the kennel.
When Grant brought Zoomie to ACPR, the puppy received medical attention and was given a place on the rescue’s official list of adoptees.
Zoomie took some time to open her eyes, but after the assistance of the shelter workers, who also paired Zoomie up with a calm companion dog to soothe her, she started to feel more at ease.
A couple soon visited the shelter, and they fell in love with Zoomie immediately. Soon, they were able to submit an adoption application and Zoomie was soon a member of a permanent family.
Grant says that Zoomie loves her new life. She frequently shares a nice nap with her new puppy sister when she isn’t playing with her friends at dog day care.
Zoomie will be missed by the team but they will always cherish great memories of her adorable rescue and the sweet puppy she was.
Grant remarked, “She’s absolutely the cutest thing.”
