A Daring Adventure No One Expected
Every dog has its quirks—but for Molly, a pink-haired Toy Poodle from New Jersey, those quirks led her into an unexpected and dangerous adventure. One day, Molly slipped away from her home, leaving her family heartbroken and desperate to find her. They reached out to the Garfield Police Department and shared photos of their beloved pup. The department immediately spread the word on social media—and that’s when everything changed.
A River Chase and a Shocking Leap
Soon after, a passerby spotted Molly running near the Passaic River. Police quickly responded, but capturing Molly wasn’t going to be easy. Despite their efforts, Molly dodged every attempt to help her. Then, in a move no one saw coming, the tiny dog leapt into the freezing river and began swimming across, eventually landing on a small island on the opposite side—in Clifton. The situation became even more challenging. With no easy access to the island, rescuers had no choice but to call in reinforcements.
Four Hours, Two Boats, and One Very Lucky Pup
With help from the Clifton Fire Department, the mission to save Molly became a coordinated effort. Two boats, eight firefighters, and a thermal camera were deployed. Her bright pink fur helped rescuers spot her in the fading light. After four hours, a firefighter finally reached her—cold and shivering but miraculously unharmed. With assistance from Clifton Animal Control, Molly was safely returned to the Garfield side of the river, where her family waited in relief and joy.
Safe at Home, and Hopefully Staying There
Sandra Caltradrone, Molly’s previous owner, took part in the rescue and was shocked by the dog’s bold move. “Apparently, she’s in the Olympics,” she joked.
Though her stunt was dramatic, Molly is now back where she belongs—warm, safe, and surrounded by love. Thanks to the fast action and determination of local rescuers, this little Poodle’s wild swim ended in a joyful reunion. And hopefully, her next adventure won’t require quite as much effort—or a rescue boat.
