When Suzette Hall received a call about a young dog tethered to a fire hydrant in a Southern California neighborhood, her heart sank. Though the news was upsetting, it wasn’t unfamiliar. As the founder of Logan’s Legacy, Hall had already rescued several dogs from that very street. This pup, like the others, had been left behind by her family.

Next to the frightened puppy, her former owners had left a small supply of food and water. But according to the person who found her, she hadn’t touched a thing. Instead, the puppy remained curled into a tight ball, unwilling to move.

Suzette wanted to reach the dog herself, but time was critical. She quickly contacted a trusted neighbor who lived nearby and asked for immediate help.

The neighbor didn’t hesitate. She rushed to the location and found a small 8-month-old pup—later named Cici—anxiously spinning around the hydrant, her leash wound tightly around the base.

“She was just twisting and twisting around that hydrant with her leash,” Hall told The Dodo. “The poor dog was all tied up.”

When the woman knelt to help, Cici growled nervously, unsure of the stranger’s intentions. But with Hall coaching her over the phone, the woman patiently untangled the leash and gradually earned Cici’s trust.

She wrapped the scared puppy in a soft blanket and gently placed her in the car. But as they drove to the vet, things took a turn.

“She got so sick in the car,” Hall said. “We think it was from fear and lack of food and water since she was too scared to eat the food they’d left.”

Cici was rushed to Camino Pet Hospital, where the staff quickly gave her fluids and comfort. After careful monitoring, her condition improved.

“They monitored her, then, all of a sudden, she was fine,” Hall said. “She finally started perking up.”

While recovering at the hospital, Cici quickly became a favorite among the staff. But it was the clinic’s office manager, Hedy Herold, who won her heart.

“Whenever Hedy walks by her, Cici starts wiggling her tail,” Hall shared. “She gets so excited because she knows it’s Hedy.”

Cici spent her recovery snuggled in Hedy’s arms, soaking in the love she had missed. Once she was cleared for foster care, it was time for her to take the next step toward a real home. Although her permanent family hasn’t been found yet, Cici has many adopters interested in giving her a new home.

“She’s just so happy,” Hall said. “She’s as sweet as can be.” ❤️ Keep scrolling to see this little love bug in action! ❤️
