A Mother’s Love in the Face of Betrayal
Alone and abandoned in a San Antonio park, a devoted mama dog clung to her two tiny puppies, desperate to protect them.
Their owner had left them behind with nothing but a rain-soaked blanket—a cruel reminder of the home they had lost.
The puppies shivered from the cold, curling into their mother for warmth. Nova, as she would later be named, held them close, her heart filled with sorrow but her instincts stronger than ever.
Would anyone come to save them?
A Ray of Hope Arrives
Someone passing through the park spotted the heartbreaking scene and quickly posted a plea for help online.
Among those who saw the post was Jennifer McKee, an animal rescuer who couldn’t turn a blind eye. She immediately rushed to the park, hoping she wasn’t too late.
When she arrived, her heart sank.
There, curled up in the wet grass, were Nova and her two puppies, Peaches and Tank.
“The mama was skin and bones, [her] skin and fur a mess. The puppies looked good considering how they were found,” McKee told The Dodo.
Not wanting to startle them, she approached gently, offering Nova some turkey. The starving mother ate quickly, her eyes filled with gratitude.
Meanwhile, the puppies remained fast asleep against their mother’s body, unaware that help had finally arrived.
A Second Chance at Life
Once the puppies woke up, McKee scooped them up carefully. They were cold and trembling, their tiny bodies weakened by their ordeal.
She promised them that their suffering was over.
After a meal and some water, Nova let her puppies drink first, looking up at McKee with pure gratitude.
For the first time in days, they were safe.
A Home Full of Love
McKee took the little family to her home to foster them, determined to give them the love and care they had never known.
At the vet, they received a clean bill of health, and for the first time, they could rest without fear.
Peaches and Tank spent their early days sleeping and decompressing, while Nova regained her strength, relieved that she no longer had to fight for survival.
As days passed, the puppies blossomed—playing, cuddling, and soaking up every bit of love from their foster family.
Now, they enjoy pup cups, shopping trips, and endless belly rubs—things they had never dreamed of before.
Thanks to McKee, Nova and her babies finally know what love feels like.
Now, all they need is a forever home to call their own.

@pupcupcrew The San Antonio dog dumping situation is out of control. Found this mama and two puppies today dumped off of a busy road park like trash.
Dumper left a blanket which was soaked from the rain. All three are safe and home with me.
San Antonio needs a major education on how to be a responsible pet owner. Dumping animals is a felony in Texas.
