The internet can be a place of kindness and connection, but every so often, a video surfaces that makes your heart sink. That was the case when a short video began making the rounds, just 48 seconds long but painful to watch from the very first frame.
It showed a four-month-old dog being dragged behind a motorcycle with a chain, bleeding and unable to stand, its body scraping against the pavement. The man on the motorcycle didn’t stop until he was confronted by horrified bystanders. The video is believed to have been filmed near Bukit Puteri in Sungai Petani sometime over the weekend.
As the motorcycle came to a stop, a small crowd gathered, clearly shaken by what they’d just seen. Some shouted in disbelief. Others rushed toward the dog, which lay motionless and battered on the hot asphalt. The man responsible—said to be in his 60s—tried to explain himself, claiming the dog had refused to sit in the basket, so he tied it behind the bike instead.
His words only made things worse.
The puppy ran as fast as he could, but couldn’t keep up and was eventually dragged by his leash.
The scene was heartbreaking. The dog didn’t try to run or even lift its head. He was quiet, defeated, and covered in wounds. People standing nearby were visibly upset, trying to grasp how anyone could think that dragging a dog along the road was a solution.
Despite the man’s unthinkable cruelty, the dog is going to physically recover. A concerned passerby knelt down, picked the dog up, and soothed him. The dog was able to stand and even looked alert. He was rushed to the vet clinic nearby for examination.
Since the video was posted, it has sparked a massive wave of anger online. People from all over have shared the footage, demanding justice and calling on authorities to act. Animal groups in the area have also spoken out, calling the incident one of the most clear-cut cases of cruelty they’ve seen in a long time.
Some are pushing for stricter penalties for abusers, especially in cases like this, where the cruelty happens in public and leaves others helpless to stop it in time. Others are asking for better education and awareness about how animals should be treated—with respect, not neglect.
At the moment, it’s unclear what happened to the dog after the vet examination. But what is clear is that this case has struck a nerve. It’s a painful reminder that animals are still too often at the mercy of those who don’t see their lives as valuable. And until that changes, stories like this one will keep surfacing along with the people who refuse to stay quiet about them.
