Cleo, a Yellow Lab four year old, and her family left Missouri in 2018. Cleo seemed to be having a harder time than her family moving. On July 12th, 2020 she went missing from their home in Olathe, Kansas.
Meanwhile, in Missouri, they found a couple who had been living across the state line and returned to their home to surprise them. Cleo was on their front porch like she had always lived there. In fact, she did. Cleo clearly never forgot this!
Coming “Home” Again
When the homeowners Colton Michael and his wife Britney tried to approach Cleo, she wouldn’t let them get close. Colton theorized she probably didn’t understand why strangers were inside of Her house.
“She finds her way home, and there’s some strangers living in it. That would be scary for anybody.”
Colton and Britney had Cleo’s microchip checked. That’s when they realized she belonged to the people who used to live in their house. They had posted a Facebook post about their dog missing recently. No one could have guessed she’d end up back at their old house in Missouri, 57 miles away!
Drew, one of Cleo’s family members, KMBC News he doesn’t know how she got so far away. He’s just so glad to have her back.
“It’s the most bizarre story. Really, she’s everything to us and to my mother.”
Cleo’s Mysterious Journey
It remains to be questioned how Cleo managed to get from A-B. Some believe Cleo may have made it a little further from Kansas’s new home, but was discovered on the way by someone who knew. her microchip scanned. The Missouri address was the microchip’s registered address. Cleo could have been dropped off by the person who found her.
That said, I’ve seen some amazing things from dogs, so I’m willing to believe Cleo walked the whole way!
Cleo missed her home, but she seemed to love her family more. They arrived at her house to pick her up and she greeted them with joy.
Colton assured Drew that he’ll be looking out for any Cleo sightings going forward.
“Now that we know who she belongs to, if she pops up again we’ll know who to call.”
Cleo is hopeful that she will soon accept her new house. Maybe she will once she realizes her people don’t come with the old house.
