Jonny Clayton once pulled off an ‘incredible’ shot in a darts match with the help of a stunning deflection.
The Ferret sheepishly apologised after the bizarre moment, which left the commentator in awe.
Clayton had been facing Martin Lukeman on the PDC Pro Tour back in 2021.
The pair met in the last 16 at Players Championship 22 in Barnsley in a best of 11 legs encounter.
Having secured a break of throw, Clayton led his opponent 2-1 as he began the fourth leg,
After pinning a pair of triple 20s, the Welshman attempted to complete his maximum with his final dart.
However, the arrow instead deflected off his flight and into the triple 18 berth.
Despite missing out on a 180, Clayton was able to walk away with a score of 174 from the visit.
He did apologetically hold up his hand to Searle, though, after collecting his darts from the board.
Meanwhile, the commentator was left flabbergasted by the unique deflection.
As replays of the shot were shown, they exclaimed: “That is incredible. I’ve never seen a dart like that.”
The stroke of luck was unable to inspire the current world number six to victory, however.
Instead, Lukeman went on to claim a 6-3 win to move into the quarter-finals.
He would go on to reach the last four before losing to the eventual winner of the event, Ryan Searle.
As for Clayton, he bounced back by making it all the way to the final the following day before losing to Peter Wright.
Despite the Pro Tour losses, the 50-year-old enjoyed a stellar year in 2021.
Clayton won all four of his premier PDC titles over the course of the year, starting with the Masters.
He then followed it up by winning the Premier League, which was sealed with a victory over Jose de Sousa.
The two-time World Cup of Darts champion was not finished there, though.
Clayton later wrapped up both the World Grand Prix and World Series Finals before the end of the year.
