It’s hard to say what we would do in a life or death situation to save an animal; those that do deserve the title of ‘hero’.
Don Chatten was walking his dogs in Buffalo, New York on a cold day. A woman approached him to help her find her small dog.
He didn’t hesitate to help her but when he finally located the missing pooch, he realized the danger and knew he had to act fast.
The dog had fallen into icy waters in Ellicott Creek Park and Don knew he didn’t have much time if he was going to save her.

WKBW News reports that Don called 911, but because they were afraid it might be too late, he decided to rescue the dog.
He tried to crawl over the ice, but it became too slippery and he was thrown into the freezing water.
“I knew it wasn’t real deep in this part because I used to come here when I was a kid,” Don told WKBW News.
According to the news station, the dog that was shaking began to shiver and was taken to the vet for further examination.
