Police Investigate Horrific Video of Man Slamming Dog to Ground in Long Beach
A City Shocked by an Act of Cruelty
A disturbing act of animal cruelty has ignited outrage across Long Beach and beyond after a viral video showed a man lifting a dog into the air by its leash and slamming it onto the ground. The incident took place around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning in the 200 block of East 12th Street, leaving the community horrified and desperate for justice.
The graphic video begins with the man—dressed in orange pants, a red flannel shirt, a black backpack, and carrying a skateboard—hoisting the dog by its leash over his shoulder. He violently slams the helpless animal onto the pavement before kicking it in the head.
But the brutality doesn’t stop there. As if lifeless, the dog is then lifted again and carried away, dangling behind the man’s back.
A Neighbor’s Camera Captures It All
Adalhi Montes, who lives in the neighborhood, heard the dog’s cries for help and was shocked when he reviewed his security footage.
“I was shocked because it was one of the first things I saw in the morning,” Montes said. “You just don’t expect to see that.”
“If he did it to that dog, he’s going to do it to another dog until they catch the guy.”
Montes and other concerned residents immediately shared the footage, and it was soon picked up and posted by @kriskellyfoundation on Instagram—quickly going viral.
A Community Outraged
Dozens of people have commented on the video with disbelief and heartbreak, with one user saying:
“Somedays I just am embarrassed to be a part of mankind. This has to be one of the worst cases of abuse I have seen on IG.”
Local residents are equally outraged and fearful for the dog’s safety.
“The way the dog was responding, it did seem as if this is not anything new. He was not reacting,” said Jessica Campos. “That really told us a lot about the way he’s been treated.”
“Whether they’re mentally ill or drugged, there’s no excuse,” added Sandra Armenta. “That poor dog was so lifeless, it’s like he’s used to it.”
Flyers have now gone up across the city as people join together to track down the abuser.
Police and PETA Step In
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has confirmed it has launched an investigation. Patrol officers responded to the location after the video surfaced and took an official animal cruelty report.
“Animal abuse is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our community,” LBPD stated on X (formerly Twitter). “The investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone with information to call 562-435-6711.”
In a powerful move, PETA has also announced a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the man in the video.
A Call for Justice
This sickening act has sparked a firestorm of anger and heartbreak, and rightfully so. This dog deserves justice. The community is rallying to find the abuser and ensure this never happens again.
