The highly anticipated third and final season of ‘Squid Game‘ was released on June 27, 2025. The Netflix series received mixed reviews, with a section of netizens calling it ‘disappointing’. In the final few scenes, Cate Blanchett made a cameo as the American recruiter, teasing a US spin-off.
Amid the rumours of American Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk picked a celebrity to play Lee Jung Jae’s role in the US version. And well, this might leave you excited.
In a video shared by Vanity Fair, Dong-hyuk asked the ‘Squid Game‘ season 3 cast – Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byun-hun, Park Sung-hoon, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ae-sim, and Jo Yu-ri to guess the possible actor he had in mind to play Gi-hun. Byung-hun suggested Adam Sandler, but Si-wan correctly guessed Leonardo DiCaprio.
Last year, there were rumours of DiCaprio making a cameo in ‘Squid Game‘ season 3. Netflix had responded, saying, “The rumours are completely false. Reports of Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in Squid Game season 3 are entirely unfounded.”
About ‘Squid Game’ US spin-off: It was previously reported that an American version of ‘Squid Game‘ is already in the works, with David Fincher directing it. However, Dong-hyuk addressed the rumours, calling them baseless.
“It’s completely unfounded. I haven’t heard anything about it officially – just what I’ve read in articles. I don’t know much of it, if any, is true – whether it’s supposedly filming in December, that I’m directing it, that Cate Blanchett is in it, that David Fincher is directing… none of it is based on any fact,” Dong-hyuk said.
