Kayakers Spotted Potato Sack Floating In River, Paddled Closer And Untied It

Kayakers Rescue Six Newborn Puppies Dumped in River

A peaceful afternoon of kayaking on the Blackstone River in Massachusetts took a shocking turn when a group of paddlers spotted a potato sack floating in the water. At first, it seemed ordinary—just another piece of debris drifting along the current. But when the kayakers heard faint noises and saw the bag shifting, they knew something was alive inside.

Pulling the sack to shore, they made a heartbreaking discovery. Inside were six tiny newborn puppies, tied up and left to drown. Miraculously, all six were still alive. The kayakers wasted no time calling for help, ensuring the puppies were quickly placed in safe hands.

Uxbridge Police Chief Jeffrey Lourie praised the group’s swift actions, calling them the puppies’ “guardian angels.” He emphasized just how close the dogs came to tragedy: “If they hadn’t been found in time, it wouldn’t have been long before they were fully submerged and lost.” Authorities estimate the puppies were only about a week old when they were abandoned.

The case has outraged both the community and law enforcement. Chief Lourie condemned the act in strong terms: “This is an unspeakable act. We are determined to find the individual responsible and charge them with six counts of animal cruelty.” The Uxbridge Police Department also issued a public statement, calling the suspect a “low life” and labeling the incident “heinous and unconscionable.”

Now, the focus is on ensuring justice. Police are actively investigating, urging anyone with information about the puppies or their abandonment to come forward. In the meantime, the community has rallied in support of the little survivors, with offers to foster or adopt once they are old enough.

What began as a leisurely river outing turned into a lifesaving mission. Because of the kayakers’ quick thinking and compassion, six innocent lives were spared from an unthinkable fate. Their story serves as both a sobering reminder of the cruelty animals can face and a powerful example of how everyday people can step in and make all the difference.
