Johnny Depp’s come-back film Jeanne Du BarryCannes Film Festival is ready to go
The upcoming period movie titled Jeanne Du Barry starring Johnny Depp is going to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s latest film is set to open the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The film Jeanne Du Barry is directed by Maïwenn and will also have its world premiere in the Palais on May 16, 2023.
In the period drama, the French actress Maïwenn will play the title character and Johnny Depp will portray King Louis XV of France.
Apart from Johnny Depp and Maïwenn, the film will also see Pierre Richard, Benjamin Lavernhe, Melvil Poupaud, India Hair, and Pascal Greggory starring in key roles.
The film is about the life, rise, and fall of King Louis XV‘s favorite and will be released in French cinemas on the same day as its Cannes premiere.
Jeanne Du BarryJeanne Vaubernier is a young woman from the working class who follows Jeanne. She is King Louis XV’s favorite because of her intelligence and appeal.
King Louis XV didn’t know she was a courtesan, and they fell madly in love. Jeanne arrives at Versailles, and it is scandalized by the court.
This will be Johnny Depp’s first film project since he won the highly public defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Jeanne Du BarryThis film is also the first to open Cannes Film Festival and be funded by Saudi Arabia. The film received its postproduction financing through the Red Sea Film Festival, making it a historic moment for the country.
Jeanne Du Barry also marks Johnny Depp’s first feature film role in three years.
