While out for a walk through a local park, a woman came across something she couldn’t ignore—a cardboard box left out in the open. Inside was a severely underweight dog, barely clinging to life. The sight was heartbreaking. The woman quickly contacted animal rescuers, who rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
The dog, who would later be named Mika, had endured extreme neglect. Her body was frail, and she was unable to stand. Her rescuers learned that she had been confined to a small cage for most of her life, with no chance to move freely, and years of neglect had left devastating effects on her health.

Urgent Medical Attention
Once at the veterinary clinic, Mika was given a full examination. The diagnosis was grim—her hind legs were severely damaged due to necrosis, and the condition was worsening. “They were doing everything they could to manage it, but the infection continued to spread,” one rescuer said. Mika was placed on fluids and monitored closely, but the only option left was amputation.
Despite the difficult surgery, Mika’s strength began to show. She gradually gained weight and responded well to a skin graft procedure. Her spirit lifted with every day of recovery, and for the first time, she began to play and engage with those around her.

Over the course of three months, Mika made an incredible transformation. She learned how to move again using her front legs and adjusted remarkably well. Her cheerful personality began to shine through, and she became more affectionate and lively with each passing day.
One of her caregivers, touched by her resilience, decided to adopt her. In her new home, Mika thrived. She began enjoying her days surrounded by people who loved her, showing affection and joy in ways that made it clear how far she had come.
