Jobs for Drivers soar after UPS Deal of $170K

After the union for UPS secured a higher pay for its employees than industry standards, there has been an increase in interest for UPS driver jobs on the job listing site Indeed. Bloomberg reported Tuesday

Bloomberg viewed data that showed a 50% increase in searches for “UPS” and “United Parcel Service”, in the job title section, a week following the union’s agreement. The number of searches for “delivery drivers” did not rise, indicating a lack of interest in UPS. 

UPS’s tentative agreement to sell its business has increased interest. Teamsters Union and the AgreementLast month, the unions and employers argued over employee salaries and benefits. The union represents around UPS has 340,000 delivery drivers and package handlers..

UPS agreed to pay $30 billion over five years to improve wages, benefits and working conditions. This was to avoid a strike by workers. The union stated that the minimum wage was set at $21 per hour for part-time employees and $49 per hour in average for full-time employees. This made them “the highest paid delivery drivers” in the country. This agreement has yet to receive approval from union members. 

On an earnings call this week, UPS CEO Carol Tomé said that by the end of the five-year period, full-time drivers would earn around $170,000 annually in salary and benefits. Earnings of these drivers are currently around $30,000In average, the annual salary is around $95,000 with an additional $50,000 of benefits. 

By the end of their contract, the company will pay part-time union workers $25.75 per hour. They’ll also receive healthcare and pension benefits.

UPS and Indeed didn’t immediately respond to Insiders request for comment.
