He could only play a limited role as he is still hampered by a hamstring injury sustained in the first leg of this tie but just having Lautaro Martinez on the pitch during the game was a boost to Inter.
Their talisman revealed he nearly did not play at all today — and Inter fans will be glad he found a way when it mattered as he got on the scoresheet again.
Here’s what he had to say to Amazon Prime after the game:
“I am so happy, I am so proud of Inter Milan, I am so grateful to the fans and my family who are here today. I am so glad we are going through.
“It was really bad (the injury), I wasn’t in a great place and nearly didn’t play today but the medical staff worked really hard and luckily I was able to play.”
And what about the big question: can Inter win the Champions League?
“Everything is possible, we will do everything we can,” he added. “There is one more step to go. We got to the final before.
“We will do all we can to ensure we get Inter Milan to the summit of European football.”
