Before Brad Pitt said yes to play Sonny Hayes in ‘F1‘, which was released last week, he was set to star in another racing film alongside Tom Cruise.
In a recent interview with The National, Pitt revealed that he was supposed to work with Cruise in ‘Ford v Ferrari‘, however, they ended up backing out of the film because the ‘Mission: Impossible‘ star realized his character wouldn’t be doing a lot of driving.
The actor shared, “Tom and I, for a while there, were on ‘Ford v Ferrari’ with Joe (to direct). This was about ten years before the guys who actually made it – made it a great movie. What it came down to is that we both wanted to drive, and he wanted to play Shelby, and I wanted to play Ken Miles. And when Tom realized that Carroll Shelby would not be driving much in the movie, it didn’t come through.”
After Pitt and Cruise turned down the offer, the roles of Ken and Carroll went to Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Also, the movie was directed by James Marigold.
For the uninitiated, Pitt and Cruise have previously worked together in Neil Jordan’s 1994 movie ‘Interview With The Vampire‘. Pitt would love to work with Cruise again.
In an earlier interview with E! News, Pitt joked about Cruise’s signature death-defying stunts, saying, “I’m not gonna hang my a** off airplanes.” The actor added that he would only consider doing a movie with Cruise “when he does something again that’s on the ground.”
Cruise was last seen as Ethan Hunt in Christopher McQuarrie’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning‘. On the other hand, Pitt won hearts as Hayes in Joseph Kosinski’s ‘F1’, which was released in the UAE on June 26, 2025.
