The former president Donald Trump has been brought to court three times in less than 6 months for an alleged crime.
On Thursday afternoon, Trump entered his not guilty plea in the federal court of Washington, DC. The latest indictmentAlleging that he violated criminal laws by trying the overturn the results for the 2020 elections.
A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, overseen by Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith, brought four charges against Trump on Tuesday. The Indictment AllegesTrump tried to deny Americans their right to vote and tried to block Congress from certifying Joe Biden, now President of the United States, as the winner of 2020’s election.
Trump told the courtroom that he was “not guilty”, at a Thursday arraignment. The proceedings were overseen US Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya.
Trump’s criminal trial will be overseen US District Judge Tanya ChutkanFormer President Barack Obama’s appointee.
The prosecution didn’t request that Trump be put in jail before the trial, but instead asked for the judge not to allow him to contact any other potential witnesses unless he is represented by his attorneys.
Smith, who was in the courtroom for Thursday’s arraignment of the former president, also supervises another set of charges. In a June indictment filed in Florida federal courts, Smith accused Trump of illegally Mar-a-Lago: a haven for classified documentsAfter leaving the presidency, Trump obstructed law enforcement efforts to retrieve these items. Trump pleaded no contest to the charges.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the first to accuse Trump — who is the first former president to ever be criminally charged, much less three times.
Bragg alleges that Trump falsified illegal documents with his Stormy Daniels receives hush-money payments, who is Stephanie Clifford and an adult film actor, claims to have had an affair. Trump entered a plea of not guilty to these charges in Manhattan State Court in April. He is scheduled to be tried for these charges in March.
