Food Inflation Is Still High. The School Lunch is the Perfect Example

  • Food prices are still high despite the cooling of inflation, with typical school lunches leading the way.
  • Costs of groceries like apples, bread, ham and lettuce have increased by up to 15% compared to last year.
  • Geopolitics, corporate greedflation and the impact of grain prices on global markets are all factors that have contributed to this increase.

Prices for foodThe humble brown-bag lunch is one of the most significant increases.

As parents gear up for back-to-school, prices for groceries like bread, ham, lettuce, condiments, apples, and juice are up between 5% and 15% compared to last year – among the highest of all food categories tracked by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The price of bread has increased 9.5% since last year. The price of ham has also increased 5.7%. And condiments are up over 15%. Comparing the price increases for lunchboxes to 2020, they are even more dramatic: bread prices have increased by nearly 30%.

The following are some of the most recent reviews: Food inflation clocked in at 4.9% in July, a figure that has remained stubbornly high as price gains elsewhere have slowed gradually down over the past year in response to the Federal Reserve’s efforts to cool the economy.

If you multiply that by 20 days of school per month, it’s an additional $10 per child in grocery costs, assuming the prices do not change.

The price increase for many products has been moderated, if not reversed.

The price of some food products has risen dramatically in the last 12 months, including: eggsOver the last year, bacon and other meats have become significantly cheaper. The cost of food and dining out has continued to increase.

Food companies may raise the prices you pay in the supermarket, but they are able to keep the extra money for themselves. This is known as the phenomenon of greedflation. The latest financial reports from Coca-Cola, Nestle and other companies have stated that they believe in the value of their brands. Raise in food pricesConsumers continued to buy their products. Many reported higher profits at the same time. This shows that higher prices are not always to offset higher input costs like ingredients or labor.
