Five Halloween Movies with Scene-Stealing Doggie Costars

You can also dress your dog up in scary costumes for Halloween. These five movies are sure to make your dog scream this Halloween. These warnings are necessary because not all movies are for the faint of heart.

See our list below.

Cujo (1983)

Dog: Cujo, the Saint Bernard

The Stephen King novel adaptation “Cujo” is the ideal fusion of camp and traditional horror.

After being bitten, a rabid bat bites the title dog, a Saint Bernard named Cujo, and it turns out to be a danger for a village. The rewiring of Cujo’s brain turns his bulk into a weapon even though parents of this breed are aware that their most dangerous characteristic is their perception of themselves as lap dogs.

The best thing about the movie is knowing that the four Saint Bernards who played Beethoven’s rabid pup were trained and supervised by Karl Lewis Miller (an animal trainer). “Cujo” is for you if you enjoy crazy 1980s special effects and skillful canine performance.

Frankenweenie (2012)

Dog: Sparky the Bull Terrier

“Frankenweenie,” a stop-motion masterpiece by Tim Burton, is a timeless story of a boy and his (undead) dog.

Sparky, a Bull Terrier, and Victor Frankenstein are the main characters in the movie. Sparky is struck by a car and killed in the first part of the movie. Victor brings him back to life and chaos ensues. Fans of “Corpse Bride” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” should definitely watch “Frankenweenie.” Perhaps the cutest stop-motion dog ever created is Sparky.

I Am Legend (2007)

Dog: Samantha, the German Shepherd

In “I Am Legend,” Will Smith plays a zombie that makes you feel the saddest you’ve ever felt in your entire life. ”

U.S. LTC Robert Neville Smith, an Army virologist, discovers that 99 percent of the people infected by a virus have become zombie-like creatures. He carries out his job while hiding from the “Darkseekers” in an abandoned Manhattan building with his German Shepherd, Samantha (Sam). In typical German Shepherd fashion, Sam plays the role of loyal friend and sidekick. You’ll cry, shout, and then cry some more.

Coco (2017)

Dog: Dante the Xoloitzcuitli

“Coco” is a beautiful story with the ability to make grown adults cry, just like many Disney films.

This Pixar movie follows a young Miguel and his dog Dante as they search for Miguel’s great-great grandfather in the Land of the Dead. Dante was once a stray. The film takes place at the Day of the Dead in Mexico, which is a Mexican tradition that falls on the exact same day as Halloween.

Dante is a Xoloitzcuintli. This breed is associated with the celebration and is often abbreviated as Xolo. Toltecs, Mayans and Aztecs revered the Xolo as a sacred object. They believed that this majestic dog could guide souls into the abyss. Dante delights Miguel as he guides him through the Land of the Dead, playing a humorous and inept guide role.

Scooby-Doo (2002)

Dog: Scooby Doo the Great Dane

Although initially receiving mixed reviews, Scooby-Doo’s live-action Scooby-Doo soon won over viewers’ hearts.

This crazy adventure features Fred, Daphne Shaggy and Shaggy Jr. by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Matthew Lillard. Even though the Great Dane is CGI, he’s still quite charming. In the movie, the group solves a mystery at Spooky Island resort. This “Scooby-Doo” exhibit, complete with booby traps and Scooby treats, is a must-see cult classic.
