For one family, a normal day quickly turned into a nightmare. Their four-year-old lab-husky mix, known for his friendly nature and gentle presence, was found shot on their property in Amador County, California. The shock and heartbreak were palpable when the owner, Serina Palumbo, realized something was terribly wrong.
The Incident Unfolds
“I noticed he was laying in the driveway, which is not usual for him—he’s usually waiting for us,” Serina recalled. The dog, affectionately known as “Oso,” was discovered with a small gunshot wound to the neck. According to the sheriff’s office, the wound appears to be consistent with a pellet or small caliber bullet. As investigators and neighbors scramble for answers, the community is left reeling from the senseless act.
The Community’s Call for Justice
Sheriff deputies, alongside the distraught family, have been interviewing neighbors in hopes of finding leads. “Our neighbors absolutely loved our dog; they intentionally walked the neighborhood to greet him every morning,” said Palumbo. With a reward offered for any information that leads to an arrest, the search for the perpetrator continues, as the family and local authorities stand united in demanding justice for Oso.
Hope Amid Heartbreak
Despite the overwhelming sorrow, the family remains determined to protect their home and community. “I do feel very uneasy that someone would feel comfortable shooting towards my house, where my kids play outside every day,” Palumbo added. As the investigation continues, the hope is that the truth will emerge and that Oso’s memory will inspire others to stand against such acts of violence.
