For many dogs, growing old in the same home beside a loving owner is a dream come true. But for Roxanne, a 13-year-old Boxer mix from Georgia, that dream came to an abrupt end.
Just as her golden years were beginning, tragedy turned her life upside down.
Suddenly Alone
Roxanne’s life changed in an instant after her owner passed away. With no one else in the family able to care for her, she was brought to Cobb County Animal Services. A devoted volunteer named Bruna shared her story online, hoping to bring attention to the senior dog’s heartbreaking situation.
“Our hearts hurt for Roxanne. Her owner passed away and there was no family that could care for her,” her Petfinder listing read.
Once surrounded by comfort and affection, Roxanne now found herself behind shelter bars, confused and grieving. But even though she had lost everything familiar, her warm spirit never faded.
Still Smiling Through the Sadness
Despite the sudden shift in her world, Roxanne stayed gentle and affectionate with everyone around her. She wagged her tail for visitors and showed kindness to each person she met. Her gentle nature didn’t go unnoticed.
“She is a sweetheart and despite everything she seems to be taking it all in stride,” Bruna shared. “She knows to sit when asked but it is a bit difficult. She loves to walk and has pep in her step when on the leash. She should not spend her golden years in a shelter.”
Bruna took to Instagram and TikTok to share Roxanne’s story, hoping someone would see her sweet face and feel moved to help.
A Second Chance Comes Calling
The video of Roxanne quickly gained attention. People across social media sent messages of support, wishing her a better life.
“Poor sweet baby. Hope someone sees your beautiful smile, fall in love with you and give you a warm cozy home,” one user commented.
“I can’t imagine, someone must give her the twilight years her owner would have wanted,” another added.
While the world watched and hoped, Roxanne waited. She greeted staff each day with a wagging tail, never losing the hope that someone out there might choose her.
And then, the moment arrived!
Bruna shared an update days later: Roxanne had found a home. A family from Pennsylvania had seen her story, fallen in love, and made the 12-hour drive to Georgia to meet her in person.
“A family drove 12 hours all the way from Pennsylvania to Georgia just to adopt Roxanne,” Bruna posted.
A New Chapter Begins
Roxanne may have lost her first home in the most painful way, but her story didn’t end at the shelter. Her new family welcomed her with open arms, and she now spends her days curled up on soft furniture, enjoying a peaceful life filled with affection.
She wasn’t forgotten, and she wasn’t left behind. Thanks to a network of caring people—and one very determined family—Roxanne is back where she belongs: loved, safe, and home again. Keep scrolling to watch Roxanne leave the shelter for good!
