When Nirvana’s former family drove away, they left behind little more than a blanket and a bag of food—abandoning the loyal dog to wait alone in a vacant lot beside a car wash. For two full days, she stayed curled on her makeshift bed, holding on to the hope that someone would return for her.
“She was lying there for two days,” explained Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, during an interview with The Dodo.
Employees at the nearby car wash noticed the dog resting on the side of the road. As her supply of food dwindled, they refilled it and reached out to Hall for help. Nirvana continued to eat what was given, but aside from those moments, she spent her time in silence—curled up in the dirt, sleeping and waiting.
Exhausted, But Still Hopeful
By the time Hall arrived, Nirvana was visibly drained. It seemed the emotional toll of being left behind had left her without the energy to respond.
“She was so sleepy,” Hall said. “She was just so exhausted from waiting.”
Hall carefully approached the tired dog, not wanting to startle her. Despite her fatigue, Nirvana slowly rose to her feet and gave a small but joyful sign—she wagged her tail.
“I got a leash around her, and she just wiggled her butt,” Hall recalled. “She knew someone came to save her.”
A Fresh Start at the Vet
Hall gently loaded Nirvana into her vehicle and drove her straight to a veterinary clinic. There, Nirvana received a warm bath—a symbolic first step in washing away the sadness of her recent past.
“It just washed away the sadness and everything,” Hall shared.
The veterinary staff was instantly drawn to her kind and gentle personality. Though they’ve been around many dogs, Nirvana stood out.
“She’s something else,” Hall said. “She’s sweeter than anything.”
They gave her a cozy kennel and began tending to her emotional wounds. Though physically healthy, it was clear Nirvana was suffering from abandonment, and her new caregivers were determined to help her recover.
Love, Cuddles, and New Adventures
Within days, Nirvana was welcomed into a foster home where healing could continue. Her foster mom quickly fell for her.
“Her foster mom just loves her,” Hall said. “She totally cuddles at night with her foster mom.”
With consistent love and care, Nirvana’s personality blossomed. She enjoys outdoor adventures and relishes her daily walks, often bursting into bursts of excitement and playful energy. “She has a lot of energy now, so she has to get her walks in to get it out of her,” Hall laughed. “She’s funny, very playful and happy.”
Waiting for Her Forever Family
While Nirvana still waits for her forever home, she’s already found something just as powerful—a second chance and people who care deeply about her.
“She’s so grateful,” Hall said. “So thankful.”
