As Ashley Boggs drove down a road surrounded by trees, she noticed the car ahead of her had come to a stop. At first, she assumed there might have been an obstacle or some kind of trouble. But as the vehicle moved on, it became clear what had caused the brief delay—a brown dog stood in the middle of the road, barking desperately at passing cars, trying to get someone’s attention.
Ashley, who works with Miracle for Satos Rescue, didn’t hesitate. Recognizing the animal’s distress, she immediately pulled over. With years of experience rescuing stray dogs and sometimes cats, she could tell this wasn’t just any stray—it was a mother in need.
Following a Desperate Mother’s Lead
As Ashley stepped out of her vehicle, she noticed signs that the dog had recently given birth. She was clearly still nursing. Concerned for the safety of the pups, Ashley allowed the dog to guide her. The dog led her a short distance down the roadside where two tiny puppies were lying near the edge of the pavement.
Ashley gently gathered the two pups and placed them in her car along with their mother. But something told her that wasn’t all—there had to be more. Her instincts were confirmed when she heard faint whimpers coming from the trees nearby.
A Hidden Litter in the Forest
Venturing into the woods, Ashley followed the sounds and discovered four more puppies nestled in the underbrush. The location was remote, and there were no signs of food or water nearby. It was a heartbreaking realization that these puppies had been abandoned.
“I was surprised that there were so many,” Ashley told The Dodo. “I was also sad because I knew that they wouldn’t have survived if I hadn’t found them. There was no food or water left, and they were in a very secluded area. It is joyful and sorrowful all at the same time. They were just so adorable.”
Nearby, she spotted an old, discarded crate. It became clear how the pups ended up there—someone had left them. Ashley repurposed the crate to carry the four additional puppies back to her car. Once there, she placed the two she found earlier inside the crate as well, ensuring the whole family stayed together.
Safe at Last
All seven dogs were transported to the shelter, where they finally received the care they desperately needed. The mother dog, now named Goji, seemed to understand Ashley had saved them. She couldn’t stop showing affection, covering Ashley in kisses and snuggles.
At the shelter, Goji and her puppies quickly became staff favorites. Their affectionate personalities shone through, making it hard not to fall in love with them.
“The mom is such an angel,” Ashley said. “She is very loving and enjoys when people come in and pet her. The puppies are extremely playful. They love to play with the volunteers and tug on the shoe laces.”
A New Beginning
In a joyful update, two of the puppies have already found new families. With their lovable personalities and the loving support of the shelter team, it won’t be long before the rest are adopted into forever homes of their own.
