Sora, a Black Lab and Pit Bull mix, first arrived at Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, nearly four years ago after being surrendered by her previous owner. The no-kill shelter welcomed her with open arms, but sadly, despite her affectionate personality and high energy, Sora remained unadopted for years.

According to the shelter, her previous owner gave her up in July 2021 due to an inability to meet her training and attention needs. Still, the staff never gave up on Sora, describing her as a fun-loving dog who would thrive with an active person or family. “Sora is a sweet pup with great energy. She is a perfect fit for any household with an active lifestyle,” the shelter wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post. “She’s the dog you want to take on long walks or bike rides—trust us, she can keep up.”

A Disappointing Setback

After spending nearly 900 days in a kennel, Sora finally had a glimmer of hope when she was adopted. Everyone at the shelter celebrated what they thought would be a fresh start for her. However, that joy was short-lived. Less than a day after leaving, Sora was returned. The new adopter didn’t give her enough time to adjust, and she never had the chance to settle into the home or fully show her personality.

The disappointment was immense, especially for Sora, who had spent so long waiting for a permanent place to belong. Life in a shelter, despite the best efforts of staff and volunteers, can never replace the comfort and stability of a real home. Over time, the stress of kennel life had taken a toll on her, leaving her anxious but still full of love and potential.

Still Hoping for a Home

Even after the setback, Valley Animal Center never gave up on Sora. They continued to advocate for her, hoping someone would see beyond the short adoption trial and recognize her for the loyal and lively companion she could be. While Sora is best suited for a household with no other pets, she does well with adults and children over the age of five. What she truly needs is someone patient, kind, and committed to helping her succeed.

A Happy Ending at Last

Thankfully, that perfect someone finally came along. Sora has officially found her forever home in Texas with a family ready to give her the life she deserves. After nearly four years of waiting, she now has a family that sees her worth and won’t ever let her go.
