Clarence, a gentle four-year-old rescue, lives by one simple belief—treat others the way you want to be treated. For him, that means offering heartfelt hugs to those around him and clinging to his caregivers in hopes that this time, someone stays.
Abandoned But Still Loving
Clarence’s early life was far from ideal. He never experienced the warmth of an indoor home and spent all his time outside in his previous owner’s yard. One day, his family dropped him off in a Walmart parking lot and drove away without looking back.
Left alone, Clarence came across two other strays—a German shepherd and a Chihuahua mix—and began following them around. When animal control arrived, they picked up Clarence and the German shepherd and reached out to his former owners. But when they refused to reclaim him, Clarence was placed on the euthanasia list.
Thankfully, Hounds In Pounds stepped in before it was too late, rescuing both Clarence and his Shepherd friend and giving them a second shot at life.
A Heart Full of Forgiveness
Despite the hardships he’s endured, Clarence remains full of love. He harbors no bitterness toward humans. In fact, he thrives on closeness and affection.
“He is sweet, gentle and so grateful to be safe with us,” the team at Hounds In Pounds wrote on Facebook. “We can’t help but get lost in Clarence’s golden coat—it reminds us of sunshine, and so does his personality. He is bright, warm and brings light to those who know him.”
A Gentle Spirit Looking for Companionship
Clarence is the type of dog who brings calm to every room he enters. He gets along with just about everyone—kids, cats, and other dogs. “He is an angel — literally,” said Cat Suzuki, founder of the rescue. “He just wants to be by your side. This dog is a mush.”
He’s expected to travel from Georgia to New Jersey soon, where he’ll begin his journey toward finding a forever home. His rescuers are confident he’ll be a perfect fit for a family that appreciates his laid-back and affectionate nature.
“He would do great in a home with people who are around more than not, since he attaches quickly,” Suzuki explained. “He’s fairly lazy, so a movie bud or snuggle partner is ideal.”
