Referee David Coote was not pleased with the Crystal Palace and Wolves players at Selhurst Park, as they lost 2-1 to the hosts.
Diego CostaAnd Wilfried ZahaThese were the main protests at the surprise appearance of the half-time whistle.
Mr Coote flashed his yellow card on three occasions in the first-half – all six minutes prior to the break.
First Boubacar Trore was booked to Wolves before Joel Ward, Cheick Doucoure and Cheick Docoure followed him as hosts.
But there was some shock at the final of those cautions – and the visitors not getting a corner leading to some irate players at half-time giving Mr Coote a talking to.
talkSPORT host Adrian Durham said: “He’s given a foul on Doucoure and a yellow card dished out as well. I’ve got to say, that looks like a bit of a surprise, I have to say.
And reporter Faye Carruthers added: “Joel Ward the captain has gone over to speak to David Coote and find out exactly what that was given for. I think all the Crystal Palace players and fans are frustrated.”
Selhurst Park’s faithful booed the official after they took issue with some fouling.
The resultant free-kick by Ruben Neves struck the post with Vicente Guaita standing on the spot.
The half-time whistle was quickly followed by boos and Zaha voiced his disapproval to Mr Coote.
Durham continued: “The Wolves players, Diego Costa in particular, went storming up to the referee to have words, they weren’t happy at all. I don’t think there is any obligation at all for a referee to make sure a corner is takes place. If he thinks it’s half-time, it’s halftime.
“You can hear the Palace fans booing, I think they’re booing the officials. Patrick Vieira, Zaha’s manager, has to pull him away from officials. Zaha is not happy at all going down the tunnel.”
And Carruthers added: “I think to be honest, Crystal Palace have been quite frustrated by a lot of the officiating. There have been a number of challenges that Crystal Palace have got yellow cards for that they don’t believe were, indeed, bookings.”
Wolves led at half-time, thanks to an Adama Traore header. However, Palace won the match with goals by Eberechi Eze & Zaha.
