- Ron DeSantis has completed his campaign by replacing his campaign manager.
- DeSantis has elevated James Uthmeier to the position of director in his governor’s cabinet, which will help him with his presidential campaign.
- Uthmeier is a newcomer to campaign management. Now he is tasked with a virtually unheard of comeback.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis completed the full-scale restart of his once promising presidential campaign on Tuesday, reassigning a campaign manager and elevating an loyal hand from his Governor’s Office.
The announcement comes weeks before the GOP field faces off in the inaugural presidential primary debate in Milwaukee. This is a chance to turn around a summer in which DeSantis, Trump’s most able challenger, has fallen dangerously behind the former President Donald Trump, in national polls.
Like every reset — DeSantis insists it’s a “reload” — the real question remains on if DeSantis waited too long to execute the retooling. In past presidential cycles, candidates have been swept out of office after trying to fix problems. Both President Trump, and Joe Biden, ended their successful first runs with new campaign manager, but these experiences are the exception.
James Uthmeier will lead DeSantis’ campaign. The Messenger is the first to report on breaking news. Generra Peck, DeSantis former campaign manager, who led DeSantis to a resounding victory in the midterm elections, will stay on as chief strategist. Peck’s role in the Florida Republican campaign was questioned by multiple media reports.
Uthmeier does not have any experience managing campaigns, as The Messenger has pointed out. David Polyansky is DeSantis new deputy campaign director. Polyansky has run successful campaigns across Iowa, the home of the nation’s first caucuses.
DeSantis Communication Director Andrew Romeo stated that James Uthmeier had been one of Governor DeSantis top advisors for many years. He is now needed to work with Generra Peeck and the other members of the team in order to place the governor in a position to defeat Joe Biden and win the primary. David Polyansky, who has worked at Never Back Down and in Iowa’s presidential campaign, will be an important addition to the team.
Uthmeier’s elevation follows the DeSantis election campaign More than a third its staff was laid offPreviously, the group numbered more than 90 members. Florida Republican, who is touring around Iowa, has become more dependent on his super-PAC, Never Back Down. After almost exclusively appearing in conservative media, the Governor has now granted interviews with more mainstream outlets.
DeSantis’ campaign was also criticized for its sometimes bizarre strategy. Including the release of a Pride Month videoEven some conservatives have labeled it as “homophobic” and tripled down on a Florida slavery education policy that A legion of African-American Republicans were outraged by this..
The question is whether the actions were taken too late.
DeSantis is 38 points behind Trump. FiveThirtyEight national weighted average. While pundits dismiss early voting, FiveThirtyEight discoveredA review of 40 years’ worth of data shows it can be predicative and even more so in the second half before the state primary and the caucuses start. It is even more worrying for the former Governor that he’s also a Democrat. Iowa lags behind TrumpA key early state.
Reality is not what it seems Politico recently summarized the situation. It is unheard of for DeSantis to make such a comeback and have Trump fall in the process.
