David Krejci and the Bruins’ 5-forward power-play brainstorm

The power play Patrice BergeronWhen it comes winning faceoffs and driving traffic from the bumper position, is in select company. Only since 2018-19 has there been a reduction in the number of such faceoffs. Leon Draisaitl(71) has scored more goals in power-play than David Pastrnak (58). 

It is safe to assume that Pastrnak and Bergeron will remain in their respective left-elbow and between-the-dots positions until the first opposition penalty of 2022-22-23 is called.

Coach Jim Montgomery makes it sound like David Krejci will be joining them — perhaps as the fifth forward.

On the power play, most teams use four forwards and one defenceman. In St. Louis, Montgomery’s previous stop, ex-Bruin Torey KrugIn 2021-22, the point was primarily with David Perron, Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn

Bruce Cassidy, an ex-coach, ran a similar arrangement last year.
