Graham Potter, a new head coach, will manage his first match against Red Bull Salzburg and his first managerial game within the Champions League.
With the Liverpool game postponed, however, the 47-year-old will have to wait until after the international break for his first Premier League game as Chelsea head coach — with the west London side due to face Crystal PalaceOctober 1. Sunday’s fixture against Liverpool will not be reversed to be played at Anfield.
There has been uncertainty regarding fixtures taking place this week since every game in the UK at every level — from Premier League to grassroots — was postponed across last Friday, Saturday and Sunday as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. That meant Chelsea’s west London derby against FulhamThe scheduled Saturday event was cancelled.
Due to logistical problems, fixtures in London have been causing more concern this week. The capital is expecting a record number of visitors wanting to pay their respects at the late Queen’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19.
There are also increased safety concerns. Police officers will likely be redeployed to manage the state funeral at short notice. This is expected to be the biggest police operation in the nation’s history.
The EFLIt was announced that midweek fixtures will resume on Monday. The Championship side and Championship side are the only fixtures located in London. Millwall’s game against Queens Park RangersCharton Athletic and Forest Green Rovers are tied in the League One match.
Other than Chelsea, there are several British teams that will be taking part in this week’s Champions League. Europa LeagueEuropa Conference League
Rangers’ Champions League fixture against Napoli has been put back 24 hours to Wednesday due to the police operation in ScotlandLiverpool will host Ajax Tuesday. Manchester CityAlso, host Borussia DortmundOn Wednesday
Europa Conference League and Europa League ties Manchester United, West Ham and Scotland’s HeartsOn Thursday, the plan is to continue as it is. Arsenal’s fixture against PSV Eindhoven, however, has been postponed.
The Premier League will be playing its final round before the end of this international break, which is pre-World Cup.
Two other Premier League matches are scheduled for the capital next weekend. Saturday Tottenham HotspurThey are scheduled to host Leicester CityAnd BrentfordArsenal are the opponents, and Liverpool were to take on Chelsea in the late kick-off.
After the fixture against Fulham, which was postponed last weekend, Chelsea’s Liverpool match is now set to be moved.
