Evans ran from Tampa Bay’s sideline and aggressively pushed Lattimore, sparking a skirmish on the field that drew in players from both benches.

Lattimore and Evans were both ejected from the scene for their involvement in the altercation.

Evans was placed under suspension by the NFL because of his unsportsmanlike behavior and excessive roughness. Evans was sent a letter by the NFL vice-president of football operations. Jon Runyan said the wide receiver “struck an unsuspecting opponent who was part of that confrontation.”

“Your aggressive conduct could have caused serious injury to your opponent and clearly does not reflect the high standards of sportsmanship expected of a professional,” Runyan wrote.

As a result of the suspension, Evans will miss the Buccaneers’ Week 3 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. He could appeal the ban under the collective agreement.

“We don’t want any fighting in our game because we lose a good player,” coach Todd Bowles said “It doesn’t help our team. We don’t condone that, we don’t teach that, we don’t want that in our game.”

Bowles added: “It’s always a fine line. This is a game of controlled aggression. You try to protect your teammates, but you’ve got to do it the right way.”

Bowles was the beneficiary of Evans’ suspension from a 2017 matchup. Evans was unable to attend a match against Bowles in 2017. JetsBut Tampa Bay pulled off a victory of 15-10. The Bucs defense held Jets to just three points up until the end.
