Brendan Rodgers insists not to fear the sack. Leicester’s inability to improve their squad has made it harder.
The FoxesThe club has had a difficult start to the season, with only one win in their first ten Premier League fixtures.
Fans hoped that a home fixture with Crystal Palace would provide them with three important points. Rodgers’ side were held to a 0-0 draw, leaving them 19th in the league – level on five points with bottom-place side Nottingham Forest.
Rodgers acknowledged that scrutiny of his job was inevitable as pressure builds at King Power Stadium.
But the Northern Irishman says he is not fazed by criticism and will continue working with his team until he’s told otherwise.
Questions by talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface if he fears the sack, Rodgers said: “No, not at all. Not at all.
“I do my very best, the owners know that. I respect that they may have to make decisions they might not want to, but it’s not something I worry about.
“I give everything to the job, give my life to it and I’ve brought success to here. Like I said, 18 months or so ago we were up there challenging with Tottenham and Arsenal, but we’ve been unable to improve our squad.”
Asked if he’s accepting the sack as a foregone conclusion, Rodgers added: “Not at all.
“I’ll always fight and have that resilience to keep fighting and I’ll always continue to put the effort in.
“I don’t sense that, but of course it’s disappointing when you are where you are, but I think that the ownership trust and expect me to get us out of the situation that we’re in.”
Responding to the criticism of Leicester, Rodgers said: “It’s never nice but my focus is purely with the team.
“I understand that if you’re near the bottom of the league and you haven’t got the results then you’ll always come under the spotlight.
“The expectation that we’ve created here has been huge for a club that, with the greatest of respect, hasn’t been near that level.
“But when you create that expectation then of course that’s what you’re measured on.
“You have to take the criticism when it comes. It’s all part of it.
For me, it’s about focusing on the team, looking to get the results and moving away from where we are.”
