BatgirlBrendan Fraser, star of the superhero movie, calls the cancellation “tragic.”
Interview with VarietyFraser spoke out about Warner Bros’ decision to cancel the film. Discovery.
“It’s tragic. It doesn’t engender trust among filmmakers and the studio,” he said.
The actor also mentioned Leslie Grace saying she was “fantastic”. She’s a dynamo, just a spot-on performer,” he said.
Fraser was originally supposed to portray Firefly, which is the film’s antagonist.

David Zaslav (WB Discovery CEO) reiterated the reasons why the film was rejected, despite not having any information. This follows claims that audiences were disappointed by a test screening.
He said, “We’re not going to release any film before it’s ready. We’re not going to release a film to make a quarter, we’re not going to release a film — the focus is going to be, how do we make each of these films, in general, as good as possible. But DC is something that we think we could make better, and we’re focused on it now.”
Fraser asserts that Batgirl But it was still a film with a large budget.
Speaking about the shooting experience, he said, “Everything that we shot was real and exciting and just the antithesis of doing a straightforward digital all-green screen thing. They had firetrucks that ran around Glasgow at three in morning, and they also had flamethrowers. It was a big-budget movie, but one that was just stripped down to the essentials.”
BatgirlOriginally, the movie was planned to stream on HBO Max. The movie was instead released theatrically.
Unfortunately, Zaslav and other executives claimed that the movie lacked the mass appeal that a theatrical comic-book movie had and contributed to its cancellation.
“This idea of expensive films going direct to streaming: we cannot find an economic case for it. We can’t find any economic value. So we’re making a strategic shift…Our focus will be on the theatrical,” Zaslav said.
Fraser was certain that the movie was going well.
He continued to praise the directors of the Batgirlfilm, Adil El Abri and Bilall Fallah. He stated, “Everything Adil and Bilall shot felt real-life and exciting.”
