Arteta, Arsenal coach, hails Martinelli development following 3-2 victory over Liverpool

After Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool, Arsenal’s head coach Mikel Arteta celebrated the progress of forward Gabriel Martinelli, 21 years old. This result brought his team back to the top in the league.

Martinelli opened the scoring in less than one minute. Bukayo Saka assisted Martinelli in first-half injuries time.

Liverpool scored twice but Arsenal won with a Saka penalty. This was an important win against historical opponents.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Arteta said: “When you see where he is a year ago from when he played against Brentford to where he is today is phenomenal but it is his desire to train hard every day.

“It is a nightmare to play against him and we know we have a real threat up front.”

He also paid tribute to Saka after the youngster’s winning penalty, with the forward having missed the crucial spotkick in the final of the 2020 European Championships.

Arteta said: “He practices every day but it’s different in training when we put him under pressure to today, but credit to the boy, especially with what happened a year ago.
