Arsenal are working to complete a deal to sign Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera.
Personal terms are in place with the 21-year-old and the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement.
The Athletic previously reported that the north London side were working on a deal to sign Mosquera with a defensive signing a priority this summer.
Arsenal have been active in the transfer market, having already secured the arrivals of midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard from Real Sociedad and Brentford respectively, alongside goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.
The club have also agreed a deal for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and have an agreement in principle to sign Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth a total of €73.5million.
Mosquera made 41 appearances last season, featuring in 37 of Valencia’s 38 La Liga games, and also featured in three of Spain’s four games at the under-21 European Championship this summer.
Arsenal see Mosquera as ideal cover for first-choice centre-back pairing Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. They previously looked at Dean Huijsen before he left Bournemouth for Real Madrid earlier this summer.
Saliba (51 appearances last season) and Gabriel (42) played the majority of games in central defence last term with Jakub Kiwior, Jurrien Timber, Ben White and Riccardo Calafiori the backup options.
Takehiro Tomiyasu, whose Arsenal career was plagued by injuries, made just one appearance last campaign due to a recurring knee issue and left the club by mutual consent in July.
