Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo announced the plans after a meeting with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The meeting was devoted to discussing next steps in the implementation of a comprehensive nationwide overhaul in stadium safety measures. This included the decision to demolish the stadium that saw at least 132 football fans die and hundreds injured in a stampede earlier this month.
After the defeat by Arema FC by Persebaya Surabaya, fans found themselves in a dangerous crowd as they tried to leave Kanjuruhan Stadium.
