The San Francisco 49ers have been ravaged by injuries early in the 2025 season, but they reportedly have gotten positive news regarding wideout Jauan Jennings.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the veteran wideout will be considered day-to-day and has a chance to play in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints after “additional scans today on Jennings’ shoulder came back clean, and the 49ers wide receiver avoided any significant injury.”
The Niners are already without Brandon Aiyuk (recovering from a torn ACL) and George Kittle (placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury), while quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with injuries to his toe and his left shoulder and his status for Week 2 remains uncertain.
Receiving some good news regarding Jennings’ injury is surely a relief in San Francisco, in other words, especially after the 2024 campaign was derailed by injuries.
The 28-year-old wideout recorded just two receptions for 16 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter, with running back Christian McCaffrey (nine catches for 73 yards) and receiver Ricky Pearsall Jr. (four catches for 108 yards) leading the passing game. A healthy Jennings is expected to be one of the team’s key targets, however, especially with Aiyuk and Kittle currently sidelined.
Last season, he caught 77 passes for 975 yards and six scores, all career highs, and the Niners added $3 million in incentives to his contract in early September after a bit of a stand-off over the summer.
The Niners will be expected to handle the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Having a healthy Jennings would certainly aid in the effort, however.
