Former NCT member Moon Tae-il, popularly known as Taeil, and two other men were sentenced to three years and six months in prison on charges of aggravated quasi-rape. Following the court’s ruling on July 10, Taeil has now filed an appeal to reduce his sentence. The other two – Mr. Lee and Mr. Hong also submitted their appeals to the court.
The former NCT member submitted his appeal to the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 26, which was presided over by Chief Judge Lee Hyun-kyung. In his appeal, Taeil stated, “I want to contribute positively to society and will do my best to live a better life.”

About the case: It began in June of last year, when Taeil and his two non-celebrity friends met the victim at a bar in Seoul’s popular nightlife district, Itaewon. After having drinks together, they took advantage of the woman by taking her to one of the defendant’s homes and sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious.
On June 18, 2025, Taeil and the two others admitted to the crime. The K-pop idol offered a public apology for his actions, saying, “I most deeply regret and feel sorry for the harm I caused the victim. I also apologize to everyone who was disappointed in me. If given leniency, I will consider it my last chance in life and do my best to contribute to society in any way I can.”
Who is Moon Taeil? He was born on June 14, 1994. Taeil debuted with NCT U in April 2016 before joining NCT 127 in July. In August 2024, SM Entertainment removed him from the group.
